Plain-English guides for Umrah pilgrims

Makkah and Madinah Guide: Places, Meeqat & Travel for Umrah

This Makkah and Madinah guide collects our short guides for Umrah pilgrims in one place, sorted by city and by stage of the trip. Each guide explains where a place is, why pilgrims go there and how to reach it by car, and new guides join this page as they are published.

The guides cover practical travel, not the rites of Umrah. For Ihram, Tawaf or any religious question, please follow your scholar or group leader. Where a place needs a car, from Jeddah Airport to the Meeqat and the historic places of both cities, the guide names the ride that gets you there.

Reading the Guides in the Order of Your Trip

Think about your Meeqat before you fly. Pilgrims flying into Jeddah usually pass their Meeqat on the plane, so ask your scholar or group leader where you should enter Ihram. After that, the terminal you land at is the next thing to check.

From King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED), Makkah is roughly 100 km by road, or 1 to 1.5 hours in normal traffic. The Jeddah Airport to Makkah taxi starts from 240 SAR in a Toyota Camry.

Some pilgrims start with Umrah in Makkah and others with Madinah, and the place guides work in either order. The Makkah to Madinah taxi covers the road between the two cities, with a Dhul Hulaifah stop on request when you head south from Madinah. In Madinah, knowing the number of the Masjid an-Nabawi gate nearest your hotel makes the first day easier.

Departure day is about timing. Leave room for the farewell Tawaf and the drive to Jeddah Airport. Check your airline’s check-in deadline; for international flights it is often 3 hours before take-off.

About These Guides

What You Will Find in Each Guide

Each guide covers one place or one travel question, such as Masjid Ayesha in Tan’eem or the Uhud martyrs’ site in Madinah.

A place guide opens with what the place is, roughly how far it is from the nearest Haram and who usually visits. Then come the history, the spellings you may see on signs and maps, and tips for the visit.

Online Umrah Taxi holds a Saudi Transport Authority licence for pilgrim transport. Where a guide quotes a fare, you agree it per vehicle before the trip, and it does not change on the day. Places without a published fare are priced on WhatsApp.

Where to Enter Ihram: the Meeqat and the Haram Boundary

A Meeqat is a set place where pilgrims enter Ihram before Umrah. These guides deal with where each one is and how to reach it by car, not with the rulings of Ihram.

Questions About This Makkah and Madinah Guide

It covers the places pilgrims ask us about most, starting with the Meeqat points near Makkah and the Uhud martyrs’ site in Madinah. Each place has its own short guide with its location, history and the ride that reaches it. New guides are added to this page as they are published.

No. These guides are about places and travel, not the rites of Umrah, and they give no religious rulings. They quote narrations only with their source. For Ihram, the Meeqat or Tawaf, please follow your scholar, your group leader or the official guidance of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

Start with your Meeqat, before you fly, because pilgrims flying into Jeddah usually pass it on the plane. If you plan another Umrah from Makkah, the Masjid Ayesha and Masjid Jurana guides describe the two Meeqat points closest to the city. The other place guides can wait until you plan your Ziyarat days.

Most places in the guides are reached by car, and Online Umrah Taxi drives to them from your hotel. Jannat ul Baqi and the Rawdah are inside or beside Masjid an-Nabawi, so you walk there. Arafat and Jabal al-Rahmah are visited outside the Hajj days only. From 8 to 13 Dhul Hijjah, our cars stay out of Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah.

A private Makkah Ziyarat or Madinah Ziyarat tour costs 200 SAR in a Toyota Camry, for the whole car. The Masjid Ayesha return trip is 100 SAR and the Masjid Jirana return trip is 120 SAR. Places without a published fare, such as Al-Juhfah, are quoted on WhatsApp before you travel.

Yes. Send the place name on WhatsApp, and Online Umrah Taxi tells you whether a Ziyarat tour or a separate ride reaches it. The reply includes the fare for your vehicle.
